Congress aiding naxals in Andhra: Naidu
Wednesday, November 19 2003 22:29 Hrs (IST)

Ongole (AP): Alleging that Congress has been helping the naxalites in the State, the caretaker Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu today (Nov 19) said violence had no place in the society and it would be no solution to the problems faced by the people.

Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stones of Malleswaram and Ramateerdham reservoirs and Ulichi check dams at Malleswaram village in Maddipadu Mandal, he said the "naxalites followed an outdated principle, which had no validity in the present society".

Listing out several welfare programmes that he has introduced, Naidu assured the people of Prakasam district that the two reservoirs and the check dam would be completed in two to three years.

He also promised that the Velugonda Major Irrigation would be completed on time.

The Minister for Major Irrigation K Srihari said the Government would float irrigation bonds worth of Rs 1,000 crore and funds would be allocated to Mallaswaram and Ramateerdham reservoirs from it.

He claimed that 10 lakh acres were brought under irrigation during the eight-year-rule of Chandrababu Naidu.
