Army Major, hold-up militant killed in Srinagar
Thursday, November 20 2003 14:23 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: An Army Major and one of the holed up militants in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) building in Srinagar were killed and two security personnel wounded in a fresh gunbattle today morning (November 20) even as the stand-off entered the third day.

After an overnight lull, militants hurled grenades at security forces who fired rockets and mortars, a defence spokesman said.

An exchange of fire followed in which an Army Major and one of the holed up militants were killed, he said.

The fate of the other ultra was not known though the firing from the building in high-security Badamibagh cantonment, where the militants were hiding, had stopped, the spokesman said.
