Srinagar: A brief exchange of fire between a militant and security force personnel took place near an
ordnance depot in Badamibagh cantonment area. The army sounded a high alert in the wee hours
today (November 21).
Security forces noticed a militant moving suspiciously near the boundary wall of the depot, adjoining the
Headquarters of 15 Corps, at around 4 AM (IST) and challenged him, officials said.
The militant fired at security personnel who retaliated, they said adding the exchange of fire lasted a few
minutes. The ultra escaped under the cover of darkness. The Army sounded high alert and sealed off
the area to track down the ultra.
The high-security Badamibagh area has witnessed a prolonged gun battle, between security forces and
militants hiding in the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) building, which ended yesterday (Nov 20).
Two militants, three security personnel, including an Army Major, and a civilian were killed in the stand-
off, which spanned three days.
