Mumbai: Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Ravishankar Prasad today (Nov 22) lauded Doordarshan (DD) for retaining its "creativity, beauty and good programming" and for achieving good TRP ratings for its 24-hour news channel.

Describing Doordarshan as a "channel of the nation" during an award ceremony for its in-house production today, he said that the national broadcaster had expanded in a big way and its 24-hour news channel had achieved laudable success.

Stressing that DD had created its own niche and identity and could be slotted in a category that was different from other channels, he said that DD had still retained its honesty and credibility.

He also suggested including a sponsored category and a category on humour in its forthcoming awards function.
