Forgery case: Vajpayee demands Jogi's resignation
Saturday, November 22 2003 18:05 Hrs (IST)
Ambikapur (Chattisgarh): Taking the battle to the enemy camp, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee
today (Nov 22) demanded Chief Minister Ajit Jogi's resignation in the wake of the chargesheet filed by
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against him in a forgery case.
"Instead of sticking to his chair, Jogi should have resigned and faced the charges. But unfortunately this
did not happen. The chargesheeted Chief Minister continues to be in office," he told an election rally in
Ambikapur, his first in Chattisgarh, nearly a week after the Judeo episode came to light.
Contending that different yardsticks were being used for those in power and the Opposition in dealing
with corruption, he said Dilip Singh Judeo resigned as Union Minister soon after allegations of bribery
were made against him.
His resignation was accepted and the case was handed over to CBI for an inquiry, the Prime Minister
said, adding Judeo has declared that he would take the matter to the people and wait for their verdict.
Recalling Jogi's allegation that the Intelligence Bureau had launched a campaign to malign him and
other Congress leaders, Vajpayee said he had asked the Cabinet Secretary to examine the charges
made in a letter by Jogi to him earlier this year.
