Saturday, November 22 2003 17:19 Hrs (IST)
Islamabad: India's participation in the forthcoming South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation
(SAARC) summit and Hurriyat Conference's willingness to hold talks with the Indian Government figured
prominently in talks between Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah
Khan Jamali in Islamabad.
Musharraf and Jamali met over an Iftar dinner last night (Nov 21) and discussed a range of international
and regional issues with special focus on recent package of confidence building measures offered by
India, an official statement said.
The two leaders along with Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri and Foreign Secretary Riaz
Khokkar discussed External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha's remarks during an interview to a Pakistani
television channel that Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee would attend the SAARC summit to be held in
Islamabad in January, but ruled out any bilateral talks, according to media reports.
They also discussed the announcement by Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq that the separatist
amalgam was ready to hold talks with the Indian Government.
Musharraf and Jamali reiterated the country's stand "to continue its political, moral and diplomatic
support for Kashmiris' just struggle to achieve their right of self-determination," the official statement
said.
They also expressed the resolve to eradicate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
