CAT paper leak case: Five more arrested by CBI
Monday, November 24 2003 21:05 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Five more persons were arrested in Delhi and Pune in connection with the leakage of question papers for Combined Admission Test (CAT) for Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), even as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today (Nov 24) did not rule out the possibility of the gang having leaked the questions of earlier competitive examinations.

Delhi police arrested four persons, alleged to be touts, outside the same hotel where the CBI had carried out raid yesterday and arrested four others including its kingpin Ranjit Singh alias "Ranjit Don". The CBI was likely to take over the custody of the four touts tomorrow.

In Pune, the police arrested one more person raising the total number of people booked there so far to six. With this, the total number of arrests in the countrywide racket went upto 14.

CBI director P C Sharma said he did not rule out the possibility of the agency probing the role of four persons in possible leakage of previous entrance examination papers.

In reply to a question whether the CBI would be limiting its probe to the present leak only, the CBI director said, "No. We might have to carry out the probe into earlier exams also. The investigation has to go backwards."
