Monday, November 24 2003 15:39 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Unfazed by protests and slogan-shouting against him at the World Economic Forum, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today (November 24) said the state was making all efforts to benchmark itself with international standards and keep pace in the economic and social infrastructure with the best in India to attract investment.

"Gujarat offers limitless opportunities for investment. Our own estimates suggest that in the infrastructure sector of power, road and ports alone, we need an investment of $40 billion in the next five years," he said addressing the Forum.

He said Gujarat could be an excellent base for export-oriented production, outsourcing and for dedicated research support.

"We are making special efforts to improve educational and healthcare facilities, besides encouraging entertainment industries. Some of you may not be aware that Gujarat already has more multiplex centres than any other state in India," he said.

The Chief Minister said the state has adopted the "karmayogi" approach, an innovative one to raising motivation level, encourage professionalism and improve productivity with the ultimate goal of better governance and faster development.
