Madurai: Attempts to bury a seriously affected AIDS (Acquired Immuno-Deficiency Syndrome) patient
alive was prevented by public at Balammalpuram in Karur district, police said today (Nov 25).
Police said 40-year-old Jafferdari, driver by profession, was admitted to Madurai Government Rajaji
hospital recently as he was found to be an AIDS patient. The doctors at the hospital discharged him
yesterday as his condition had worsened.
Since the owner of the house where Jafferdari was staying refused to allow an AIDS patient in his house,
his relatives took him to the burial ground and started conducting "funeral rituals". However, the
watchman of the burial ground got panicky and immediately informed the Jamaath, police said.
Meanwhile, the news about the alleged attempt to bury the AIDS victim alive spread and people who
gathered there protested and told Jafferdari's relatives that it would amount to murder.
Later he was admitted to a local hospital and his condition was stated to be serious, police said.
