New Delhi: Terming its reaction "very very positive", India today (November 24) welcomed Pakistan's
offer of ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) from Eid and suggested its extension upto Siachen
Glacier.
External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha said "today, we responded to the offer of (Pakistan Prime
Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan) Jamali in a very very positive manner."
"We said our troops will respond to a ceasefire along the LoC. In fact, we want the ceasefire to extend
beyond the LoC into the glaciers of Siachen," he told the
India Economic Summit organised by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and World Economic
Forum.
Sinha said India was trying to improve ties with Pakistan "so that this spectre of hostility between our
immediate neighbourhood also vanishes and South Asia is able to prosper
like other countries in the world."
Earlier, calibrating its response to Jamali's offer made last night (November 23) during an address to the
nation, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna told reporters that "cross-border infiltration
must end in order to establish the full ceasefire on a durable basis."
He said New Delhi also welcomed Islamabad's decision to work for expanding communication links
proposed by India on October 22.
As another step in this direction, India offered immediate technical-level talks for early implementation of
its proposal.
