Guns galore in Jammu as Valley falls silent

Jammu/Srinagar: Pakistani troops shelled several Indian border outposts and forward defence locations
in Noushera and Samba sectors in Jammu division, even as guns fell silent along the line of control
(LoC) in Kashmir valley today (Nov 25).
Firing 40 to 50 mortar bombs since last evening, Pakistani rangers targeted Kalsian, Jhanger and Sher
Makri areas in Rajouri district's Noushera sector prompting Indian troops to retaliate, officials said.
There was no loss of life or damage on the Indian side, they said.
Both sides also traded small arms fire intermittently along the international border (IB) in Ramgarh and
Samba sectors last night.
For the first time in recent years, guns fell silent along the LoC in Kashmir valley.
There were no reports of Pakistani shelling in Kupwara and Baramulla districts, said to be the gateway
for infiltrators from across the border.
"As Pakistani guns remained silent, we also did not open fire," the officials said.
Carrying forward the peace process, India and Pakistan today agreed on an Eid ceasefire along the
LoC, IB and Siachen glacier, the first formal truce between the two armies since the outbreak of militancy
in Jammu and Kashmir.
