Kolkata: Expressing fear that controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen's autobiographical
book 'Dwikhandita' might disturb communal harmony in West Bengal, a body of Muslim intellectuals
wrote to Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee today (Nov 25) saying that it contained "insulting
comments" on Islam.
In the letter, the body – Kolkata Khilafat Committee – alleged that page 49 and 50 of the book had made
certain "baseless and insulting comments" on Islam, "which cause serious concern to us".
"We feel that no such comment should be made against any religion," the committee said, demanding
that Taslima, besides the publisher and the printer should apologise for the contents of the book.
It also demanded that the West Bengal Government take immediate steps to stop its printing, publication
and circulation.
The Calcutta High Court had on November 19 passed an interim injunction restraining publication, sale,
marketing and circulation of the book.
