Adequate troops were provided to Assam: Advani

Bhopal: Joining the issue, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today (Nov 26) rejected the charge that the
Centre did not provide adequate security forces to cope with the anti-Bihari violence in Assam and said
had Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) been in power in the Northeastern State the situation would not have
worsened.
Addressing election rallies at Balaghat, Seoni and Katni, he said though the Centre had provided
adequate security forces for quick restoration of normalcy, it was being blamed for anti-Bihari
attacks.
Despite security requirements in four poll-bound States the Centre has made available 3-5 battalions of
Border Security Force (BSF) to Assam, Advani said, adding that Minister of State for Home
Chinmayanand Swami and Northeast Affairs Minister C P Thakur were deputed to review the situation in
the troubled State.
"Results are before you ... but Congress is blaming us. Had there been a BJP Government in Assam,
the situation would not have been allowed to deteriorate like this," he told a poll meeting at Balaghat.
Accusing Congress of having failed to provide good governance in States under its rule, Advani said if
BJP Governments remain in power both at the Centre and in States, they would work in tandem to
remove backwardness and bring rapid development.
