Assam BJP favours dialogue with ULFA

Guwahati: Assam Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Indramoni Bora today (Nov 27) asked the
United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) to hold talks and accused Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi of failing
to anticipate the violent consequences that could follow the extremist outfit's notice to all Hindi-speaking
people to quit the State.
Bora told reporters that the ULFA should come forward for talks if they were really interested in
developing the State.
"The Centre has been always open to negotiations and now it is up to the ULFA to respond positively to
solve the problems," Bora, who is also an MP, said.
Criticising the Chief Minister, the BJP leader said, "Gogoi failed to anticipate the consequences that
could lead to violence following the ULFA notice and also the possible reaction to the AASU-sponsored
Assam bandh on November 17."
"If he had taken appropriate security measures and mobilised the available forces, this violent situation
would not have arisen," he asserted.
On the visit of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Laloo Prasad Yadav to the State, Bora alleged that he
only came here to campaign for the Congress and had no right to interfere in the affairs of the
State.
He did not even bother to visit the trouble-torn Tinsukia district and also had no right to advise the State
on law and order issues as he had failed on this account when he was the Chief Minister of Bihar, he
said.
