EC challenges CAT order on Chattisgarh transfers
Thursday, November 27 2003 12:06 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) today (Nov 27) moved the Chattisgarh High Court at Bilaspur challenging the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) quashing its directive to transfer district collectors of Jashpur and Bastar in the poll-bound Chattisgarh.

The Commission's move comes in the wake of the ruling by the CAT at Jabalpur on November 25 holding that the EC order on the transfers was "not only illegal, improper, but against all the settled tenets of law. The CAT said it did not find anything prejudicial on the part of collectors to have violated the Model Code of Conduct."

The Election Commission on October 29 had ordered transfer of Jashpur collector B S Anant and Bastar collector L N Suryavanshi for "violating the Model Code of Conduct".
