Kolkata: Three police personnel, including the officer-in-charge of the Pirakata police outpost were
injured when a landmine, suspected to have been planted by the People's War Group (PWG), exploded
at the canal road near Birghosa area under West Midnapore district in West Bengal today (November
27).
Deputy inspector general of police (HQ) N C Ghose told reporters in Kolkata that the police party was on
regular patrol in the area when the landmine exploded, causing minor injuries to the three. The police
jeep was also damaged in the landmine explosion.
He said that the police personnel who noticed some people fleeing in the nearby jungle opened fire, but
it was not known immediately whether anyone was killed or injured.
To a question, the DIGP said that PWG ultras might be behind the explosion and added that search was
on to nab the extremists.
