Raipur: Congress president Sonia Gandhi yesterday (Nov 26) charged that corruption has become
deep-rooted in all spheres of life under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic
Alliance (NDA) Government at the Centre.
"Top BJP leaders are now busy trying to prove to the people what they have seen on television as
wrong," she said at an election rally in an apparent reference to the cash-on-camera episode of former
Union Minister and senior BJP leader from Chattisgarh, Dilip Singh Judeo.
Gandhi came down heavily on BJP and accused it of "discriminating" against Chattisgarh. Since the
ruling party at the Centre never stood by the people during crisis, it should be rooted out from here, she
said, addressing the gathering almost at the same time when Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was
speaking at a meeting in the city.
The Congress president attacked the Vajpayee Government for making "miserable" lives of the poor
and farmers.
"The BJP had promised to give jobs to at least a crore of people. It should now explain how many people
have been given jobs," Gandhi said at another rally earlier at Bilaspur.
During drought and at the time of paddy procurement when the Centre refused to provide help, the
Congress Government in Chattisgarh took steps for betterment of people and BJP, which never stood
by the people, is now asking for votes in its favour, she said.
