Coimbatore: A World class IT park space, enhancing general infrastructure and a friendly governance
environment, were some of the few of critical enablers for making Coimbatore a major IT destination of
Choice.
With the availability of skilled manpower for select segments in the ITES/IT business, Coimbatore had
the potential to attract large investments, a primary research conducted by Price Waterhouse Coopers
(PWC), under the aegies of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), revealed.
The estimated employment potential in Coimbatore was in the region of 13,970 with an estimated built
up occupancy of 1.3 million sq ft, and with likely estimate revenue
potential of around $113 million by 2008, Sanjukta Pal of PWC told reporters in Coimbatore today
(November 27).
To attract this population, some of the convenience areas that required improvement were the flight
connectivity and the hotel infrastructure, she pointed out.
Close to around 71 organisations from a sample base of 200 organisations had expressed their interest
in setting up a base in Coimbatore, Sanjukta said.
Further, there was also an intense need to accelerate pace to set up IT park, as the neighbouring state
of Kerala was gearing up for attracting IT investments, Sanjukta said.
