Bangalore: Rajasthan's famed "Palace on Wheels" railway trip is set to be replicated in Karnataka at
one-fourth of tariff for passengers, Union Minister of State for Railways, Basanagouda R Patil Yatnal,
said today (Nov 28).
Yatnal told reporters after a meeting with South Western Railway officials that it is proposed to fix the
tariff in the Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000 bracket for a weeklong trip, compared with Rs 1.6 lakh for a similar
joyride in the desert state.
The services and facilities such as dining hall and bar proposed in Karnataka package, set to be started
in two to three months, would be similar to the one in Rajasthan and tourist locations such as Mysore,
Hassan, Hampi and Hospet would be covered.
The Minister announced that Railways would float a corporation within a month to develop surplus
railway land and make it revenue-generating proposition. "Encroachment of Railway land has posed a
serious problem for us," he said.
