Saturday, November 29 2003 22:33 Hrs (IST)

Raipur: Naxalites today (Nov 29, 2003) targeted the convoy of Congress candidate from Bijapur Assembly constituency in Chattisgarh, Rajendra Pambhoi, by triggering a landmine blast in Bastar district, but he escaped unhurt.

A vehicle of security personnel, which was following Pambhoi's car was targeted but the fate of one assistant platoon commander, one head constable, four other security personnel and driver was not known, Bastar inspector general of police Sant Kumar Paswan said.

Unconfirmed reports said five security personnel were injured in the attack.

Outlawed People's War Group (PWG) naxalites carried out the attack around 18.15 hrs (IST) in Kungupalli village, about 600 kms from Raipur, when the Congress leader was returning after campaigning for the December 1 polls, Paswan said.

Pambhoi himself informed the police about the attack, he said, adding that casualties, if any, were not known so far.

He is on the hit list of PWG, which earlier attacked his house at Bhopalpatnam and ambushed his vehicle near Raipur.
