Passion for Success takes boy on flight to HAL
Sunday, November 30 2003 17:16 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: "Passion for Success" (PFS-1) is what Mohd Muzakkir Sharieff has coined for his dream machine, an aircraft, built of spares from the local junkyard and powered by an engine of his father's Bajaj scooter.

Now his grit and passion for making a perfect flying machine has landed the 22 year-old Bangalore boy a job at Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), India's premier aircraft builder to realize his dream to work on the real machines.

"There was initial resistance from my family but now they admire the work. I should now be able to work on building better aircraft for the country," a beaming Muzakkir, who has passed second PUC (12th std) told reporters in Bangalore on November 30.

A year ago, unhappy and worried over his obsession with designing and building an aircraft, Muzakkir's parents, sent him to a vocational training institute to learn motor-winding, which turned for the budding designer a blessing in disguise.

Encouraged by institute director K K Makhija, he designed and built single-handedly the aircraft, sourcing components from the local junkyard and spending about Rs 10,000.

"Now we realise how much our boy has achieved," father Mohd Sameeullah, a retired government Urdu teacher said.

Muzakkir has made calculations when designing the aircraft, but HAL officials insist he needs to learn more theory of aircraft design.

"The boy has enormous talent and capability. I have insisted that he should pursue his studies while working here," HAL Chairman N R Mohanty said.
