Bomb threat to Pamban bridge; security tightened
Sunday, November 30 2003 12:28 Hrs (IST)

Madurai: The security for the famous Pamban bridge linking the mainland with the Rameswaram island has been strengthened following a bomb threat, police said.

They said the 24-hour tight security arrangement would continue till December 6, Babri Masjid demolition day, to prevent any untoward incident.

The Railway Police were checking the baggages of the train passengers and the coaches at Mandapam station before the train crossed the bridge.

The police has also requested the public not to touch any unclaimed object found anywhere in the railway station or track and inform the police immediately.
