BJP confident of landslide victory in Delhi
Sunday, November 30 2003 18:53 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: On the eve of Delhi Assembly polls, the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) today (Nov 30) claimed
that it would wrest at least 45 of the 70 seats at stake and prove the pre-poll surveys wrong.
Alleging that the opinion polls by agencies have misled the public, Delhi BJP chief and chief ministerial
candidate Madan Lal Khurana said such polls have "lost" credibility.
"I cannot understand how these polls predict a landslide victory for Congress when we are getting such
a favourable response from the people," Khurana told reporters in New Delhi.
BJP would get its "highest-ever vote share" in tomorrow's polling and assume power, he added.
There was a "strong undercurrent in BJP's favour", Union Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma said
adding the public has praised the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Government's performance which
would be the basis of the party's victory.
Khurana said the Congress workers were "demoralised" as their Central leaders "did not attend" many
rallies in Delhi.
"Shiela Dikshit also cannot raise the morale as she herself does not have a base in the city," he said.
He said there was "rampant infighting" in the Congress and BJP would benefit from the poor image of
many sitting legislators of the ruling party.
Charging Congress with misuse of official machinery for its benefit, senior BJP leader V K Malhotra
claimed that his party conducted the "cheapest" campaign and raised issues concerning Delhi's
residents.
