New Delhi: Portugal High Court has granted extradition of little-known Bollywood actress and girl friend
of underworld don Abu Salem, Monica Bedi, to India.
The official communication was received by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today (Dec 1,
2003), agency sources said.
The order was issued after the Portuguese Supreme Court asked the high court to review the order of
trial court, which had quashed a CBI petition for her extradition to India, they said.
Monica was also awarded a two-year jail term by a lower Portuguese court for entering Portugal on a
forged document and continuing to use the same document for stay in that country.
The court also held Salem "guilty" of three offences, including entering the country on forged
documents, and awarded him four-and-a-half year jail term.
She still has a right to appeal in Portuguese Supreme Court.
The CBI had sought her extradition for obtaining a fake travel document in the name of Sanha Kamal
Mallick from Hyderabad.
She was caught in Portugal with the same passport and detained on September 18, 2002 along with
Salem and two other companions.
During her extradition trail, Monica's brother Bobby Bedi had deposed before the court and stated that
her sister and Salem had entered Portugal as they were feared threat to their lives from the Indian
mafia.
