Exit polls predict BJP win in Rajasthan, MP

New Delhi: Exit polls on two television channels today (Dec 1, 2003) predicted a surprise edge for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Rajasthan and a clear win in Madhya Pradesh, while Delhi and Chhattisgarh may go in Congress favour.

A DRS exit poll on 'Sahara Samay' channel predicted 89 out of 200 seats for BJP in Rajasthan and 84 seats for Congress while ORG-Marg exit poll on 'Aaj Tak' said that as per trends till 14:00 hours (IST), BJP would bag 38 per cent votes closely followed by Congress at 37 per cent.

In Madhya Pradesh, the poll on Sahara Samay forecast 168 of the 230 seats for BJP, 44 for Congress and eight for Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

In terms of percentage, the ORG-Marg poll predicted 44 per cent votes for BJP and 35 per cent for Congress on the basis of trends available at 14:00 hours (IST).

The polls came as a surprise as earlier opinion polls had said Congress was poised to do better than BJP.

For the 70-member Delhi Assembly, the exit poll on Sahara Samay gave 38 seats to Congress and 25 to BJP while another TV channel - Star-TV quoting A C Neilson exit poll - predicted 50 seats for Congress and 11 for BJP.

In terms of percentage till 14:00 hours (IST), Aaj Tak predicted 51 per cent votes for Congress and 37 per cent for BJP in Delhi.

In Chhattisgarh, having 90 Assembly seats, Congress was shown to be getting 43 per cent votes and BJP 39 per cent by the ORG-Marg exit poll on Aaj Tak, whose size of sample survey was 21,600.

'Sahara' did not give any detail about its survey.
