BJP rules out early Lok Sabha elections
Tuesday, December 2 2003 18:30 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today (Dec 2, 2003) ruled out early Lok Sabha elections whatever the outcome of the Assembly polls in the four States held yesterday (Dec 1).

Describing the polling in the States as "very encouraging", party spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, "There is no question of holding early polls to the Lok Sabha and it would be held as scheduled."

He said the Assembly elections have brought to the fore that matters like development and good governance would be the main issues that would be focussed upon in future elections, be it Assembly or Lok Sabha.

Asked whether a result in favour of BJP could lead to early Lok Sabha elections, he said it was not likely and that it would be held as scheduled.
