SSP among 18 cops hurt in militant attack in JK

Srinagar: Eighteen policemen, including senior superintendent of police (SSP) Abdul Qayoom Manhas,
were today (Dec 2, 2003) injured when militants attacked the Anantnag district police headquarters in
Jammu and Kashmir exploding a grenade.
Militants tossed a grenade on the police headquarters, 55 kms from Srinagar, around 11.45 hrs (IST)
when the SSP entered the complex, official sources said.
Manhas, station house officer of Kokernag police station G M Parray, and 16 other policemen recieved
splinter injuries in the blast, they said.
The injured were rushed to hospital and seven of them were referred to Srinagar for specialised
treatment, they said.
Both Manhas and Parray had minor injuries, the sources said adding that the condition of all injured was
stable.
The blast triggered panic in the entire township.
