Kuki ultras kill 3 in Assam; set 19 houses ablaze

Guwahati: Kuki militants struck again in Assam's Karbi-Anglong district, killing three Karbis, including a woman and injured one person besides setting ablaze 19 houses last night (Dec 2, 2003).

Police sources today said the ultras attacked Karbi village Menterang under Manja police outpost at around 20.00 hrs (IST) and torched the houses and opened indiscriminate fire.

A woman, a 10-year-old boy and a man were burnt to death while one person sustained bullet injuries.

The inhabitants of the Karbi village had been evacuated and sheltered at a relief camp in Manja, they said.

The whole area has been cordoned off by the police. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and army have launched a joint operation to flush out the marauding assailants.
