Mumbai: Navi Mumbai assistant commissioner of police (ACP) R B Yennam, who was arrested yesterday
(Dec 2, 2003) in connection with the multi-crore fake stamps and stamp paper scam, was remanded to
police custody till December 9, sources said.
The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police, which arrested Yennam on the charge of
connivance with Telgi, produced him before a additional chief metropolitan magistrate today morning.
Yennam, sources said, was posted as senior inspector in the Dharavi unit of the Mumbai Crime Branch
in 1998, when he arrested scamster Abdul Karim Telgi's cousin Tabrej Telgi, along with alleged fake
stamps worth Rs four lakh.
Two more persons were arrested along with Tabrej, one of them being Madhav Mutti Devidaga, also
known as Madhav M D. He was a close aide of Abdul Karim Telgi.
Yennam, police sources alleged, showed Madhav M D as a witness instead of an accused in the
investigation papers of the case and also allegedly did shabby investigations, that led to Tabrej
succeeding in securing bail.
Tabrej is absconding since then and the special investigation team (SIT) has not been able to trace him.
The SIT later moved to court and got Tabrej declared as an "absconder", sources said.
Madhav M D too was absconding for almost an year, but was later arrested by SIT, sources said.
