Chandigarh: A MiG-29 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near Adampur in Punjab's Hoshiarpur district, with the pilot bailing out safely.

The aircraft developed some snag during routine flying and crashed 25 kms Southeast of Adampur air base at 12.43 hrs (IST), an IAF spokesperson said, adding the pilot Squadron Leader P J Mohammed bailed out to safety.

The MIG-29, which are the frontline aircraft of the force, have had a good safety record so far with only two to three crashes since their induction in late 1980s.
