Bangalore: Complying with a Supreme Court directive, Karnataka Council of Ministers today (Dec 4,
2003) decided to set up a Special Court for trial of two disproportionate assets cases against Tamil
Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the State.
Briefing reporters, Information Minister Allum Veerabhadrappa said Law Minister D B Chandregowda
would hold consultations with Karnataka High Court Chief Justice N K Jain on the modalities including
location of the court.
"At a convenient place proposed by the Chief Justice, we will have it," he said about the location, adding
it could be in "any part of Karnataka".
Chandregowda had said yesterday (Dec 3) that from the security point of view, the Government felt that
Parappana Agrahara jail on Bangalore outskirts would be the "best place" for location of the court as
Jayalalithaa was placed in the "Z" category of security.
The Supreme Court had on November 18 transferred two disproportionate assets cases against
Jayalalithaa and four others from a Chennai Special Court to Karnataka and directed the State
Government to appoint a special judge within a month.
