Thursday, December 4 2003 18:18 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party trounced the ruling Congress in the three crucial States of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The only consolation for Congress was that it retained power in Delhi, where the party bagged 48 seats as against 19 for the BJP.

In Rajasthan, opinion poll predictions were turned on its head as the BJP won 119 out of a total of 200 seats. Congress could only win 58 seats in the State.

In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP won a whopping 173 seats, with Congress pocketing a mere 38 seats.
