Gogoi urges Biharis to return and resume work
Friday, December 5 2003 22:40 Hrs (IST)

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today (Dec 5, 2003) called upon Bihari people who left Assam in the wake of recent disturbances to return to the State and resume their normal work.

Gogoi said in a statement that normalcy had returned to the State and due protection would be given to the Bihari community.

"Rehabilitation measures for those who were affected in the recent violence have already started and the Government will ensure that there is no repetition of such incidents in the future," the Chief Minister said.

Gogoi said that the age-old harmony between the people of Assam and Bihar must be maintained in the interest of unity and integrity of the nation and expressed confidence that temporary aberrations would not affect the traditional healthy relationship between the people of the two States.
