3 ultras, civilian killed as violence continues in JK

Srinagar: Three militants, including a self-styled district commander of al-Badar outfit, and a civilian were killed and another civilian injured in separate incidents in Kashmir valley since last night (Dec 4, 2003), official sources said today.

The district commander of al-Badar, Abu Lukman, was killed along with his bodyguard in an encounter with troops of 10 Para at Kandi in Kupwara district, the sources said.

The encounter broke out when the troops raided the village following specific information about presence of some top militants, the sources said, adding some arms and ammunition was recovered from the dead militants.

In another encounter, they said security forces killed an unidentified militant during house-to-house searches at village Malwan in Kulgam area of Anantnag district.

They said militants shot dead a civilian identified as Mohammad Abdullah Sheikh at Gadwada in Lolab area of Kupwara district early today. Sheikh was killed on the charge of being an informer of security forces.

Another civilian Mohammad Ismail Gujri was injured in a crossfire between militants and security forces at Larigam in Tral area of Pulwama district, the sources said, adding Gujri was hospitalised.
