New Delhi: Voicing strong concern over growing incidents of rape and molestation of women in the country, a Rajya Sabha member today (Dec 5, 2003) demanded castration of rapists.

Prema Cariappa moved "the prevention of sexual assault on girls and women Bill" during private member's business in the House which calls not only for capital punishment but castration of rapists.

Saying rape was the most inhuman crime, which traumatises a victim throughout her life, Cariappa in the statement of objects and reasons for the Bill said, "Castration may appear to be inhuman but beasts deserve only this kind of punishment which will have a deterrent effect on purveyors of lust."
