India to release $ 27 million aid to Ghana
Saturday, December 6 2003 22:36 Hrs (IST)

Abuja (Nigeria): India today (Dec 6, 2003) conveyed to Ghana that it would release the remaining $ 27 million to it for rural electrification programme and farming projects.

This assurance was given by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to Ghana President John Agyekun Kufour when they met on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Summit.

India had committed a creditline of $ 42 million when the Ghana President visited New Delhi in August last year. Of this, $ 15 million was released immediately and the rest was supposed to be released later.

In view of the request made by Kufour during his meeting with the Prime Minister, the latter gave his consent to release the amount immediately, Foreign Secretary Shashank told reporters after the meeting.
