Aussie PM Howard 'stumped' by Vajpayee!
Saturday, December 6 2003 10:09 Hrs (IST)

Abuja: "Oh my God." That was how Australian Prime Minister John Howard reacted when his Indian counterpart Atal Bihari Vajpayee told him the score on the second day of the first cricket Test between the two countries.

The two leaders are in Abuja, Nigeria, for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meet (CHOGM).

The Australian premier, keen to know his team's progress in the match Down Under, asked for an update from Vajpayee during a one-to-one meeting between the two leaders.

Vajpayee obliged by telling him Australia's score at stumps – 323 for nine. The Australian Prime Minister was stumped, as the Aussies had been dominating till the first day's play with a score of 262 for two.

Briefing reporters about the meeting, External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha said it began on a cordial note and the leaders discussed a lot of cricket.
