New Delhi: America's Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has imparted training to 30 senior police
officials of India in cyber crime and 29 in crisis management, Government told the Lok Sabha today (Dec
9, 2003).
These training courses were part of the anti-terrorism assistance programme, Minister of State for Home
I D Swami said in a written reply.
He said other such courses are also being conducted on specialised subjects.
Terrorism: There have been reports of attempts by terrorist outfits through their overground support
network in Jammu and Kashmir to lure unemployed gullible youth to join the terrorist groups for their so-
called 'jihadi' movement, Swami said citing information from the State Government.
Allurements by way of monetary assistance have reportedly played a major role in recruiting the youth
into terrorist fold, he said, adding a number of local youths were rescued by security forces this year
from clutches of terrorists.
Gujarat: There have also been some reports that some Muslim youths from Gujarat have been taken to
Pakistan via Bangladesh for training, Minister of State for Home Swami Chinmayanand said.
Cell phones: No report of mobile phones in Jammu and Kashmir being passed into the hands of
terrorists has come to notice, Swami said, adding a number of security conditions have been
incorporated by the Department of Telecommunications in consultation with the security agencies and
Home Ministry to prevent any misuse.
