PM urges BJP to prepare for Lok Sabha elections
Tuesday, December 9 2003 12:43 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today (Dec 9, 2003) said Opposition would make attempts to "vitiate" the atmosphere following BJP's (Bharatiya Janata Party) resounding victory in the Assembly elections in three states and asked party MPs to remain vigilant.

"The Opposition cannot face the defeat in the Assembly elections and they will make efforts to vitiate the atmosphere. So, we should be careful," Vajpayee was quoted by BJP spokesman V K Malhotra as saying at the Parliamentary Party meeting in New Delhi.

The Prime Minister said the party's victory in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh had brought about a change in the country's political atmosphere. He attributed the win to team work.

The Prime Minister told the meeting, attended by the three newly sworn-in Chief Ministers, that they should make efforts to immediately provide basic amenities, including adequate power and water, to the masses.

Vajpayee told the meeting, held in a celebratory atmosphere, that the party should now begin preparations for Lok Sabha polls slated for next year (2004).
