Patiala: Shiromani Akali Dal president Parkash Singh Badal and his Rajya Sabha MP son Sukhbir Singh were released from the Central Jail in Patiala today (Dec 10, 2003) after a Ropar court granted regular bail to the duo in a disproportionate assets case registered against them by the State Vigilance Bureau.

Ropar Special Judge S K Goyal ordered the release of the father-son duo on bail bonds of Rs 20 lakh each and two sureties of the like amount.

The release orders were issued by Ropar Chief Judicial Magistrate J S Bhinder after the Badals furnished the bail bonds.

The release orders were later handed over to the Central Jail authorities this afternoon by a special messenger deputed by the court.

A large crowd of party workers and leaders had gathered outside the Central Jail to greet the former Chief Minister and his son.
