Mine worker killed, another hurt in coal mine blast

Hyderabad: A mine worker was killed and another seriously injured in a blast at an underground coal mine in Karimnagar district of Andhra Pradesh today (Dec 10, 2003).

The blast occurred at 'GDK 8' mine at Godavarikhani due to "wrong handling of explosives", the executive director of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) T R K Rao said.

A coal cutter G Mallesh, who took the brunt of the explosion, died on way to hospital while his colleague L Balakrishna was seriously injured and has been shifted to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad, the official said.
