Stamp scam: SIT arrests ex-jail superintendent

Bangalore: The Special Investigation Team of Karnataka, STAMPIT, which is probing the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam, has arrested a former superintendent of Central Jail in Bangalore and an assistant superintendent in connection with the scam.

The arrest of Jaisimha, who was the jail SP, and Nanjappa, presently Assistant SP, were made last night (Dec 9, 2003) for allegedly helping prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi in running the fake stamp paper business from the jail, STAMPIT head Srikumar said.

He said both would be produced before a court later in the day.

Jaisimha is now the principal of the Prison Training Centre in Mysore. PTI
