Hazaribagh: One person was killed and four others were critically injured when police opened fire to
disperse a mob, which attacked Bhurkunda police station in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district today (Dec
11, 2003) to protest against an incident of child sacrifice.
Superintendent of police Anurag Gupta told reporters that the mob, incensed over the sacrifice of the
six-year-old boy Munna allegedly by an ojha (exorcist), brick batted the police station injuring a few
policemen.
As a mild lathicharge failed to quell the crowd police had to open fire in self-defence, Gupta said adding
those injured in firing were being treated at the nearby hospital of the Central Coalfields Limited.
Munna had been abducted from his village under Bhurkunda police station on December five and his
body was recovered today.
The exorcist Khokha Baba has been arrested in connection with the incident, police said.
