Jaya wants assets case trial transferred to P'cherry
Thursday, December 11 2003 11:32 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today (Dec 11, 2003) requested the Supreme Court to transfer the trial of disproportionate assets case against her to Pondicherry instead of Karnataka in view of the anti-Tamil sentiments prevailing in the neighbouring State due to tensions over sharing of Cauvery river waters.

The application was mentioned before a Bench comprising Justice S N Variava and Justice H K Hema, which asked the counsel to mention it before the Chief Justice of India.

Last month, the apex court raising doubts about the fair trail of the disproportionate assets cases against her, had directed these to be transferred to a Special Court at Bangalore.
