5 ISI men held; assassination plot unearthed

Ahmedabad: Gujarat police have arrested five Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) agents, who had allegedly conspired to assassinate several local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders and seized arms and ammunitions from them, police said today (Dec 12, 2003).

The five persons had allegedly conspired to assassinate BJP leaders, including sitting MLA of Naroda constituency Dr Mayaben Kodnani, former Minister of State for Home Gordhan Jadafiya, VHP leader Jaideep Patel, Bajrang Dal leaders Babu Bajrangi and Kamlesh Tripathi, in-charge City Police Commissioner Chittaranjan Singh told newspersons in Ahmedabad.

Police recovered one .32 bore revolver, one 9 mm revolver and 38 cartridges from their possession, Singh added.
