New Delhi: India will focus on eradication of terrorism at next month's (Jan, 2004) SAARC (South Asian
Association for Regional Co-operation) Summit in Pakistan to be attended by Prime Minister Atal Bihari
Vajpayee.
This was stated by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, who met Vajpayee and
Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani two days back.
In the event of Vajpayee holding bilateral talks with Pakistani leadership, Sayeed said issues including
enhancing people-to-people contact, consolidation of ongoing ceasefire and the Bagliyar power project
could be taken up.
"The focus of SAARC Summit will be on complete eradication of terrorism from the civil society as people
in the entire sub-continent want to breath in a fearless atmosphere," he said.
Asked if any bilateral talks would take place, he said, "If there is one, then I have requested the Prime
Minister to first consolidate the ceasefire along the Line of Control followed by starting of Srinagar-
Muzzafarbad bus service."
Other issues like Bagliyar power project, Siachen issue and Wulur Barrage Navigational Lock could also
be discussed during the meeting, the Chief Minister said.
