New Delhi: Maintaining that it stood by the resolution adopted by Parliament on Iraq, Congress today (Dec 15, 2003) sought a statement from the Union Government on the capture of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

The Government while reacting to the new development should make a statement, party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy told reporters in reply to a question.

He said Hussein should be treated as a prisoner of war and given due respect in keeping with his status as a former President with "all courtesies" under the Geneva Convention.

Asked about his party's stand on Iraq, Reddy said like all other parties it stood by the resolution adopted by Parliament on Iraq.
