Kohima: Asserting once again the Naga people's desire to come together under one administrative unit,
Nagaland Government moved a resolution in favour of integration of contiguous Naga areas on the
opening day of the current winter session of the state Assembly which began in Kohima today (Dec 16,
2003).
Moving the Government's resolution, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio told the members, the Naga people
have a strong desire to come together through integration of all contiguous Naga inhabited areas.
He pointed out that the resolution adopted by Naga People's Convention (NPC) held at Mokokchung in
1959 in this regard was included in the 16-point agreement signed between NPC and Government of
India in 1960. The 1960 agreement culminated with the formation of Nagaland state in 1963.
Informing the members that Nagaland Assembly had earlier passed resolutions in support of the Naga
integration in December 1964, August 1970 and September 1994, Rio said, the House sought to
reiterate its earlier stand and urged the Centre to bring together the Naga people living in Nagaland and
the contiguous areas by integrating them under one administrative unit.
In another resolution, the state Government has urged the Centre not to implement the proposed
delimitation of Assembly constituencies in Nagaland considering the sensitive ground situation and the
on-going Naga peace process in the state.
