No change in India's stand on Iraq: Sinha
Tuesday, December 16 2003 14:21 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Two days after the capture of the ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, India today (Dec 16, 2003) said there is no change in its stand that the Iraqi people should decide the future of their country with the United Nations (UN) playing a role in it.

"There is no change in Iraq policy of the Government that the Iraqi people should have control over their country and the UN should be in charge," External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha was quoted as saying at a meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Parliamentary Party in Delhi.

BJP Parliamentary Party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra quoted Sinha as saying that the sovereignty of Iraq was with the people of the country.

Asked whether Saddam Hussein's capture figured at the meeting, Malhotra replied in the negative.
