90 Northeast militants surrender in Assam

Tezpur: A total 90 rebels belonging to leading militant outfits of the Northeast surrendered before the
operational head of Unified Command Structure and GoC of Gajraj Corps, Lt Gen Mohinder Singh today
(Dec 16, 2003) barely 24 hours since the launch of the offensive by Royal Bhutan Army in that country
to flush them out.
The surrenderees, including four women cadres, comprised 64 from the banned ULFA (United
Liberation Front of Assam), 23 of NDFB (National Democratic Front of Bodoland), two of NSCN (National
Socialist Council of Nagalim) and one ATTF (All Tripura Tiger Force), Defence sources said.
They also laid down weapons including a US-made carbine, three rifles, 15 revolvers, eight grenades of
Chinese and Indian make, fuses, detonators, explosives, ammunition and documents.
The women cadres are Ranu Medhi with her 18 month-old son Raktim, Gita Tamuli, Charu Deka and
Kabita Rajbangshi. The husbands of the first three also surrendered, they said.
The operatives of 4 Corps Intelligence, Field Security Company and 3 Det Eastern Command Liasion
Unit succeeded in bringing the 90 ultras to give up their armed struggle, Singh said.
